Upper Kenai Peninsula

Upper Kenai Peninsula  August 4th -7th

We have spent a wonderful, relaxing three days here in the Forest Service Campground in Cooper Landing on the Upper Peninsula. We didn’t travel very far from Seward and found this great place where the Kenai River and the Russian Rivers converge.

There is a walkway with fishing stations all along the Russian River all the way to the Kenai..about a mile from our campsite to the convergence.Tim has been able to fish for hours on end with just walking out of the camp and down the walkway to the river.

Cleaning His Catch
The weather has been great… high 50s, low 60s and no rain for a few days!
Blue Skies

There are literally hundreds of fishermen (and women) along the banks of both rivers. The Salmon are running upstream to spawn and some of them are not going to make it. There is also a ferry from the main highway that will take people across the Kenai to the far side to fish as there is little room to fish on the highway side.
That along with the rafts floating by, make this a pretty busy little piece of Alaska especially this time of year.

Moving on to Homer on the 7th.

  1. Sorry for the "wake up call" the other morning, glad we got to talk! These last few posts have brought back so many memories- the road you camped on in Seward was the same road of our hotel. As you know, we loved Chitina and Wrangle... So glad you are having fun and catching salmon!
